Trifocal IOL outperforms nondiffractive EDOF lens in predictive accuracy and near vision
The trifocal Zeiss AT LISA TRI intraocular lens (IOL) provides more accurate refractive outcomes, faster postoperative stability, and better near vision compared with the nondiffractive EDOF Teleon Comfort lens following bilateral cataract surgery, according to a study.
The review included 115 patients, with outcomes assessed at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively.
The LISA TRI group achieved superior predictive accuracy across IOL power calculation formulas, with lower mean absolute errors and a higher proportion of eyes within ±0.50 diopters of target refraction. Refractive stability was achieved by 3 months in the LISA TRI eyes, whereas 20% of the Comfort eyes continued to show significant shifts. Near vision and defocus curve performance were also stronger in the trifocal group.
The authors concluded that “These findings support the importance of IOL-specific constant optimization and highlight the need for incorporating DEQ into routine refractive outcome evaluation.”
